A 12-week randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in Korean adults with prediabetes, 65 of whom completed it. Blood glucose 30 minutes after an oral glucose load fell significantly in the bitter melon group and did not move in the placebo group, and glucagon fell significantly at 120 minutes and at peak concentration. Fasting glucose did not change in either group — the authors note their participants’ baseline fasting glucose was not high enough for a change to show.
